PAINTING THE SKY WITH WATERCOLOUR
HOW TO PAINT THE SKY WITH WATERCOLOUR?
WET THE PAPER
Soak the paper in a bowl of water for 2 minutes, then lay it on a waterproof surface.
APPLICATION AND FEATURES
Apply washes of colour to different areas of the wet paper. Using Dioxazine Purple and Payne’s Grey, work on the scene’s features, giving the cloud structure.
ADDING LIGHT AREAS
To emphasise dark areas, contrast them with light colours, working with diluted paint. Add areas of light to the cloud and the strip of land.
OVERLAYING WASHES OF COLOUR
This technique close to glazing consists in applying a new layer of colour on a dry one. By superimposing several layers of the same colour, you will be able to increase its intensity and give depth to your work. You can create a third tone by working with the transparency and overlaying two different colours.
