PAINTING A BEACH WITH ACRYLIC
HOW TO PAINT A BEACH USING ACRYLIC?
PREPARING THE COLOURS
Prepare the sky colour using with Veronese green mixed with primary blue and titanium white. For the beach, mix pink ochre with Veronese green and a hint of white. Paint a coloured background by creating areas of gradient, starting at the top with a light green tone, working towards a chrome green colour, then a sand tone at the bottom for the beach.
PREPARING THE TEXTURE
Create the coloured sand by mixing the collage gel and sand tone paint with fine sand. Knead everything well with a painting knife to obtain a homogeneous paste.
COLLAGING
Apply the mixture directly onto the canvas with a knife to represent the beach in the foreground. Then add larger grains of sand to the mixture, to apply at the bottom of the painting to bring relief to the foreground.
HOW TO CHOOSE AND TAKE CARE OF BRUSHES?
When you begin painting with acrylic, we recommend starting with a set of synthetic brushes that will allow you to test different shapes and sizes of round or flat brushes. A spalter will be useful for your canvases’ backgrounds or when varnishing your work. Finally, if you want to create impastos or smooth the texture of your paint on the canvas, you can use a knife without angles. Don't forget to clean your equipment with soapy water as soon as you finish your work so you can reuse it: the acrylic paint dries very quickly and becomes indelible.
COLLAGE GEL TO CREATE EFFECTS
This medium is a soft and creamy gel ideal to create collages and add texture to your creations, in a transparent matte or shiny rendering. It can be used on its own for thin collages or mixed to any ratio with acrylic and vinyl paints to subtly increase their volume.
