The history of Flashe, the artists' ally

For over 300 years, Lefranc Bourgeois has been innovating to offer artists paints that match their creativity. The first modern paint, Flashe, launched in 1954, is a perfect illustration of this quest. Originally designed to meet the specific needs of theatres and opera houses, whose sets on all surfaces had to be painted and repainted quickly in opaque and matt coats, Flashe quickly became a benchmark in the world of fine art.

It combines the mattness and opacity of gouache with the indelibility and durability of acrylic on all surfaces. Its velvety, extra-fine, supple and covering texture is made from a vinyl resin emulsion binder that allows you to explore new perspectives. It is made in Le Mans, France, from high-quality pigments specially selected for the fine arts, guaranteeing absolute colour and exceptional durability.

The iconic Flashe range celebrates its 70th anniversary and unveils a Collector's Edition

In the 1980s, Victor Vasarely, the great master of optical art, helped to make the properties of Flashe even more exceptional by working with the expert chemists at Lefranc Bourgeois to create a Flashe x Vasarely signature collection.

The first modern paint, adopted by the greatest artists, celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. For the occasion, six artists have created their own colour and revisited the Flashe jar label. JonOne, RaKaJoo, Agnes Cecile, Thierry Lefort, Paolo Troilo and Kelly Anna are the 6 international artists (and Flashe fans) who have been selected to create their own colour. The brand chose them because they break free of limits and frameworks, painting with their fingers, on sculptures or even on monumental murals... They all embody freedom, daring and joy!

This unique encounter between art and chemistry at the Le Mans factory will forever mark the history of Flashe.

Rakajoo

Rakajoo, born in 1986, is a French multidisciplinary artist who combines painting, animated film and comics. His work, influenced by classical painters such as Vermeer and Manet, is rooted in the contemporary world and often explores personal and urban themes.

He was discovered in 2008 thanks to a monumental fresco and has since exhibited in a number of prestigious venues, including the Palais de Tokyo and the Fondation Blachère. In 2022, he won the Prix des Amis du Palais de Tokyo and opened his first solo exhibition there in 2023. A graduate of the Kourtrajmé school, his works, characterised by a cinematic dimension and the presence of masked figures, question viewers about double culture and Afro-European identity.

Rakajoo has created ‘RakaJoo Red’ to symbolise his personal and artistic journey. This intense red is directly linked to his experience, representing passion and determination. RakaJoo Red’ has become his signature, marking his work with a unique stamp and vibrating with an energy all his own.

Paolo Troilo

A former DA at the Saatchi & Saatchi agency in Milan, for which he created some memorable advertising campaigns, Paolo Troilo entered the art world in 2006. The day he decided to take up painting, he forgot to buy brushes and colours, creating his finger-painted works in black and white.

This technique, so distinctive of his work in the art world, earned him selection for the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. His work is a blend of intensity and technical mastery, where each painting captivates the viewer. His work has been exhibited from Rome to Singapore, via Istanbul and the United States.

Paolo Troilo's colour: Troilo Grey
Using only his fingers to paint, Paolo Troilo has developed a distinctive style in which grey plays a central role. For him, this colour symbolises the depth and complexity of human emotions, oscillating between light and shadow, nuance and contrast. Troilo Grey’ reflects both the technical mastery and the exploration of life and creation that characterise his work.

Kelly Anna

Kelly Anna is a London-based artist and designer, renowned for her work featuring silhouettes centred on movement, sport and well-being. Her artistic journey began with a background in dance and gymnastics, then continued with studies in fashion illustration and design. These disciplines have strongly influenced her style, with dynamic motifs and compositions that celebrate movement and strength.

She spreads her emblematic forms across a wide range of fields, including fashion, architecture and food. Brands like BMW, Nike, Penguin and the NFL have all chosen Kelly Anna.

Kelly Anna's colour: Kelly Anna Blue

JonOne

JonOne was born in 1963 in New York. He discovered graffiti at the age of 17 thanks to his childhood friend White Man. In the 1980s, together with Rac7 and Kylie, he founded the ‘156 All Starz’ group of artists who worked in the New York underground. JonOne quickly made a name for himself with his abstract works, marked by a dynamic use of colour, movement and energy.

It was in Paris that JonOne began painting on canvas, revolutionising his art with vibrant, colourful compositions. His work has been exhibited all over the world, including in Seoul, Miami, Monaco, Paris, Geneva, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Brussels, London, Abidjan and Moscow.

Agnes Cecile

Agnes Cecile is an Italian artist born in Rome in 1991. Her style is characterised by clear, luminous images and vibrant colours. She has been drawing since childhood, attracted by the human figure and its expressiveness. One of the first to use the internet to promote her paintings, by the age of 18 she already had a large following online.

She developed an instinctive and personal style of painting, rich in detail, but also in abstract forms and rapid gestures. She learned to express herself through watercolour and acrylic, creating intimate portraits that depict inner worlds and emotions. Her ongoing exploration of emotional storytelling enables her to reach out to people from all walks of life. This universal language has led to exhibitions all over the world.

Agnès Cécile's colour: Rose Sakura

Thierry Lefort

Thierry Lefort is a French artist who lives and works between Paris and Los Angeles. A painter from an early age, he spent two years training in Chinese calligraphy at the Shaolin Temple in Henan province, China.

A leader of the ‘Renaissance of Figuration’, Thierry Lefort does not seek to deliver a faithful image of the scenery, landscapes or towns he paints. For him, the ‘subject’ and the ‘motif’ are merely alibis. They are the starting point for a complex composition in which masses, lines, shapes, light and colour are forced into balance. After exhibiting in 2015 at the Musée d'art moderne in Tokyo and, in 2020, at the Palais de Constentin in Saint Petersburg, Yoyo Maeght has been presenting and organising his exhibitions in the most prestigious art centres since 2021. In 2022, the County of Los Angeles and the City of Burbank invited him to create a monumental work measuring over 150 m2 at the intersection of Orange Grove and San Fernando.

Thierry Lefort's colour: Lefort Californian Blue
Thierry Lefort created ‘Lefort Californian Blue’ in reference to the unique light and atmosphere of California's urban landscapes, particularly those of Los Angeles and San Francisco.
